Why Verify?
Verifying your accounts syncs your trading reputation into COINDEX:
- Shiny points from r/Pmsforsale carry into COINDEX
- Secures your photo uploads and album pages
- Carries trust across platforms (Reddit → COINDEX → Discord)
- Distinguishes you from newcomers
How to Verify Your Reddit Account
- Go to Settings → Account Verification
- Click "Verify Reddit"
- Copy the verification code
- Post the code as the title in r/COINDEX_VALIDATE
- Click "I've Posted It" — we'll sync your shiny points
There is no Reddit login or OAuth. We never ask for your Reddit password. We only read your public verification post and public flair data.
How this prevents faking: Only the actual owner of a Reddit account can post from it. By requiring you to post a unique code, we confirm you control that account.
Disclaimer: COINDEX is not affiliated with Reddit.
Discord (Auto-Sync Shiny Points)
Once your Reddit is verified, connect Discord to auto-sync your shiny points:
- Click "Connect Discord" in Settings
- Authorize via Discord's OAuth
- Your shiny points sync to participating Discord servers
- Updates automatically when your points change
Token permissions: We request identify and role_connections.write only. This token cannot access your messages, servers, friends, or email. View Discord's official scope documentation →
Discord Flair Levels
Your trading history from Reddit unlocks flair roles on participating Discord servers:
Seller Tiers (coins):
LVL 1 — 20+ sells
LVL 2 — 50+ sells
LVL 3 — 100+ sells
LVL 4 — 500+ sells
LVL 5 — 1000+ sells
Buyer Tiers (bags):
LVL 1 — 20+ buys
LVL 2 — 50+ buys
LVL 3 — 100+ buys
LVL 4 — 500+ buys
You receive only your highest qualifying role (e.g., reaching 100 sells gives you LVL 3, not LVL 1 + 2 + 3). Seller and buyer tiers are tracked independently.
Note: Thresholds are subject to change as the community grows.
Google (Sign-In Only)
Optional convenience for faster sign-in:
- Email hashed for account matching (zero-knowledge)
- Name and picture shown in your settings
- Tokens used once and not stored
Token permissions: We request openid, email, and profile only. This token cannot access Gmail, Drive, Calendar, or any other Google services. View Google's official OpenID documentation →
Privacy Note: All account verification is optional and can be removed anytime from Settings.
When you upload photos to COINDEX, we automatically strip all privacy-sensitive metadata before your image ever leaves your device.
What gets removed?
All EXIF metadata is stripped, including:
- GPS coordinates - Your photo's location data
- Device info - Phone model, serial numbers
- Timestamps - When the photo was taken
- Camera settings - Aperture, ISO, focal length
- Owner info - Camera owner name, copyright tags
- Thumbnail images - Embedded preview images
How does it work?
The stripping happens client-side in your browser before upload:
- Your photo is loaded into a canvas element
- The image is redrawn (which removes all metadata)
- Photo orientation is preserved by reading EXIF rotation tags first
- The clean image is then compressed and uploaded
This "canvas redraw" approach guarantees complete metadata removal - we never receive your original file's metadata.
What about photo orientation?
Photos taken in portrait mode stay in portrait mode. We read the EXIF orientation tag before stripping, then apply the correct rotation to the canvas so your photos display correctly.
Is my IP address logged?
No. We do not store IP addresses associated with photo uploads.
Are my photos used for AI training?
Only if you opt in. Your photos are never used for training unless you explicitly consent via your profile settings. All training data is anonymized.
COINDEX Photo AI is our upcoming open-source coin recognition system. Take a photo of coins or bullion on a table, and instantly get a categorized table of exactly what they are—type, year, mint mark, and more.
Our Vision
- Instant cataloging: Photograph a pile of coins → get an itemized inventory in seconds
- Affordable: So cheap it's basically free to use
- Open source: The model will be fully open-sourced for the community
Privacy & Training Data
Building a great coin recognition model requires training data. Here's how we handle it responsibly:
- Opt-in only: Your photos are NEVER used for training unless you explicitly consent via your profile settings.
- Always anonymous: No personal information is ever linked to training images.
- EXIF data stripped client-side: Before your photo even leaves your device, we automatically remove privacy-sensitive metadata including GPS coordinates, camera serial numbers, timestamps, and owner information. This stripping happens in your browser (via canvas redraw) or on your phone (via native re-encoding)—we never receive this data in the first place.
What We're Building
Our goal is to make coin categorization effortless:
- Snap a photo of coins/bullion on your table
- AI identifies each piece automatically
- Get a table with: coin type, year, mint mark, denomination
- One-click add to your COINDEX collection
Technical Note: We plan to use a custom-trained vision model hosted on Cloudflare Workers AI. More details on the architecture will be released soon.
Want to contribute? If you opt in to share your coin photos (anonymously), you'll help build a free, open-source model that benefits the entire collecting community.
